The sports world as we know it is about to take a very hard blow to the gut.

One of its most iconic, and talented athletes will, at the end of this 2015-2016 NBA season, no longer step foot on the hardwood floor.

Kobe Bryant’s retirement was imminent. Everyone knew it was bound to be announced in the next year or two.

No one really made anything of it.

That was until Kobe, in the form of a poem titled “Dear Basketball” on November 29, 2015, announced that “this season is all I have left to give.”

Fans all over the world were in complete and utter shock. We’re talking about an individual who night in and night out for a course of 20 years, gave it everything he had out on the basketball court.

And what better way to send him out then for fans and players all over the NBA to recognize him one game at a time for the rest of the season.
For the NBA, it’s time to honor greatness.
