On January 20, the DECA team competed in a district wide business competition where 32 members advanced to state.

DECA is a business competition. All competitors had to take an online test, and then participated in a role play at the competition.

For some, the roleplay was a based on a prompt they had 10 minutes (if they were individual) or 30 minutes (if they were partnered) to prepare for. They then presented their ideas to a judge.

Other members competed in written events, which means they had been working on their role play for months, compiling information and presentations to present to a judge.

“I feel very excited that 32 DECA members will be heading to Dallas for state, and will be competing for ICDC, which will be in Atlanta this year,” Lori Wood, an adviser of the school’s DECA chapter, said.

The state competition will take place from February 20-22 at the Sheraton. The rounds will be the same as at district.

“I’m very proud of these kids for all of their hard work,” said Wood.
